Hi,

My name is CHIKHI Sofiane 21 yo undergraduate Computer Science student at University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene.

I’m here to share with you my own experience as a first participation in hackathon ever and specially in Local Hack Day Build 2021 with Micro Club guild.

But before that you may ask what is LHD build ?

First , Local Hack Day is a week-long celebration event, of creating hacks revolving around technology , that brings together students from around the world in the name of competition, community-building , commuter science skill-building and to contribute to open source projects ect…
So whether you are skilled in coding or you are a beginner there are challenges for all skill levels. Each time you conquer a challenge you’ll earn more points… and points get you cool swag of course !

Before the event :

Personally i was stressed about how the challenges will be and and how to deal with my lack of knowledge in IT field but my guild mates comfort me because we will all team up to deal with daily challenges and specially weekly ones and as our guild master said : “Local Hack Day is the easiest way to participate and learn and contribute with projects to a worldwide community soo just join don’t worry the force is by your side”.

Day 1 :

We did a livestream from discord in our guild server and watched it all together it was funny specially when we raid the twitch chat with #Micro club but just after we started working seriously on challenges i attended all the workshops and lives and did all the daily challenges except one because i ran out of time sadly.
at the end of the day 1 LHD updated the leaderboard and… surprise i was on 8th rank worldwide i was shocked and happy at the same time all my friends and guildmembers spammed me on discord to congratulate me.

Day 2 :

I was on fire literally i did all i could do to submit challenges on time with the help of our elders in the guild but what i knew LHD isn’t only for coding and submitting challenges but it’s also mini events and activity to chill share good moment with hackers community i participated in the !Light challenge at 3Am xD.
at the end of the day i didn’t maitain my position in the leaderboard but i still satisfied because i did my best att the way.

Day 3 :

Things went hard for me i was lost on many challenges i stressed for that i was asking help from everyone nothing went good, it went quickly the guildmaster moved me to a channel where everyone was waiting, they played some music and prepared for sharing a meal all together hahahaha we attended all together the rest of LHD lives.
with some chance i didn’t fall a lot in the leaderboard.

Day 4 :

sadly i was exhausted and i only attended the lives and workshops but couldn’t submit any challenge sadly but i kept in mind that the main reason to participate in hackathons like that is to gain experience knowledge not to compete.

Actually day 5 :

This is the last day for daily challenges i teamed up with friends to collaborate and complete challenges together.
